RAM 14th Annual International Peeps Art Exhibition
- Location
- Racine Art Museum
- 441 Main St.
- Racine, WI
This untraditional exhibition at the Racine Art Museum showcases art made from or inspired by colorful marshmallow Peeps® candy. Artists of all ages are invited to welcome the spring season by creating art for the only museum competition of its kind. Entry is free and open to all individuals, families, and organizations. Entrants have become experts in marshmallow candy as a material over the last fourteen years, using methods like carving, painting, hole punching, gluing, and melting to manipulate Peeps® into incredible shapes. While the seasonal candies are the most common material, entries do not need to be created using actual Peeps®—they can take inspiration from the candy while using various other media. Each year, the show’s popularity draws thousands of visitors to RAM, setting daily attendance records and inspiring nationwide media attention along the way. While the COVID-19 pandemic has affected attendance in recent years, interest from creatives remained unwavering. Over 135 enthusiastic artists created art for the RAM 11th Annual International Peeps Art Exhibition in 2020, which was postponed for months beyond its usual Easter holiday opening due to pandemic shutdowns. The 12th and 13th editions saw a meaningful increase in submissions, featuring creative artwork by 170 and 207 artists, respectively. In addition to awards selected by RAM, visitors throughout the run of the show will have the opportunity to vote online for their favorite creation, naming one popular artwork worthy of the coveted PEEPles Choice Award. This vote has been taken very seriously since the inception of the annual exhibition. With guests allowed only one per visit, they circle the works of Peeps® art, take notes about the exhibition, and sometimes even lobby for their eventual favorite. The award will be announced after the closure of the exhibition.
