Racine County K9 unit costs are all covered by community donations.

Racine County has many K9 units. The K9s are dual purpose dogs trained in patrol tactics such as tracking and searching for missing people or offenders, offender apprehension, handler protection and evidence search/recovery. The second purpose they are trained in is narcotic detection.

These dog are highly trained and are very hard working dogs. Their handlers put in many hours or training and work to perfect their skills and to keep them at the highest level they can achieve to keep the citizens and visitors of Racine County safe.

These dogs do not hesitate to serve and protect when called upon, no matter the danger they may face.

K9 teams are assigned to the patrol division but are called upon to assist with other departments if needed. These K9 teams have also responded to numerous calls outside our county and agencies when asked to assist with situations. All K9s live with their handlers and their families. The K9 teams are on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week if needed.

The resource of having K9 teams in the Patrol division gives us a more efficient way to locate narcotics, fleeing or hiding offenders, the recovery of evidence, and an invaluable increase in Officer safety. Simply put, the K9 officers can do things our human deputies cannot and for that they are invaluable to our agencies and the communities we serve.

These K9 teams also are great in the community and can be seen at numerous community events promoting safety and community awareness on the police K9 abilities.
