Overview

The Great Pumpkin Chuckin Festival celebrates all things pumpkin!!  Pumpkin bake-off, pumpkin decorating, pie contest and a chili cook-off. Kids activities include hay rides, costume contest and games. Arts, crafts, local businesses, great food and seasonal beers available. Don't miss the exciting Pumpkin Chuckin competition. A captain and three other team members will build a machine to launch an 8 – 10 pound pumpkin.  There will be three Chucker Divisions – one for each type of machine: Trebuchet, Catapult, and Slingshot. There is more to chuckin than just the mechanical elements.  It’s about fun, community, sportsmanship, creativity, and entertainment. The Pumpkin Chuckin event promotes STEM skill; Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.  Judges will award points in four categories:  Machine Design (20%), Team Presentation (20%), Distance Accuracy (20% each), and Good Sportsmanship (20%). New this year is the Kansas City Barbeque Society-sanctioned Great Midwest BBQ cookoff. Nearly 40 teams from throughout the region are expected Saturday to compete in ribs, pork, chicken and beef brisket. The winners will be announced at 4 p.m. Saturday. Some of the teams will be selling their BBQ cooking on Sunday. Free admission both days - courtesy of the Greater Union Grove Area Chamber of Commerce, Racine County Agricultural Society, Runzheimer International and local Subway sandwich shops.
