Welcome - one and all - to Salmon-A-Rama 2017

Salmon-A-Rama, one of Lake Michigan's biggest annual fishing tournaments, runs July 15-23 from a NEW Racine lakefront location. This derby-style contest covers the entire lake and offers competition in nine divisions, including daily prizes for the largest fish in five species categories. Overall, there are more than 100 ways for SAR contestants to win cash and prizes - including a guaranteed $25,000 grand prize for the largest overall fish.

Big prizes awarded

The 2017 tournament headquarters has moved to Pershing Park, 500 Pershing Drive. For nine days, there will be a steady stream of contestants bringing in fish to be weighed and measured. Results will also be tallied from remote Salmon-A-Rama weigh-in stations at Milwaukee, Port Washington, Sheboygan, Kewaunee and Sturgeon Bay, Wis.; Winthrop Harbor, Ill.; Lake Station, Ind.; and Benton Harbor, Saugatuck, Nunica (Muskegon) and Ludington, Mich.

Of course, all eyes will be on the leaderboard to see which angler will claim the  grand prize. In 2016, Eric Hoffman claimed the top prize for a 30.40 lb. brown trout. In all, 4,984 fish were registered in last year's tournament. In 2010, the Salmon-A-Rama grand prize was awarded for a world-record (41 lbs. 8 oz.) brown trout caught by Roger Hellen. Will history repeat itself? Time will tell!
