New golf tournament on the way
The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) is bringing the inaugural AJGA Preview to Mount Pleasant's Meadowbrook Country Club with the support of Real Racine on May 5-7.
The AJGA provides exceptional junior golfers the opportunity to develop and showcase their competitive skills for college golf scholarships. The organization has annual membership of more 6,500 junior golfers (boys and girls ages 12 through 19) from 48 states and 55 countries.
The weekend event at Meadowbrook, 2149 N. Green Bay Road, is expected to attract junior golfers from throughout the Midwest. The Junior Golf Hub Preview Series is designed for AJGA members who have not yet played/been accepted to an AJGA tournament. Event organizers expect this tournament to give these juniors valuable experience.
"Looking forward to an incredible event"
"We are looking forward to an incredible event with both the AJGA and Meadowbrook. For most of these golfers, it's their first opportunity to showcase their skills on a national stage and we could not be happier to provide such an ambitious course and welcoming city for all of them," said Cari Greving, special events manager at Real Racine, the county's destination management organization.
Formed in 1978, the AJGA (www.ajga.org) has a rich history of developing outstanding golfers. Its alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. That list includes such well-known golf greats as Phil Mickelson, Tiger Wood, Jordan Spieth, Stacy Lewis and Vicky Hurst.
Meadowbrook Country Club is conveniently located in eastern Racine County. It features 18 holes, 6,417 yards and a par 71.
