Golden Books, golden moments at Visitor Center
Real Racine invites everyone to "Share the Golden Moments," an exhibit of Golden Books
and other Western Publishing Co. memorabilia at the Real Racine Visitor Center, near
Racine, Wis., I-94 and Highway 20, exit 333.
Golden Books—a fondly remembered item on children's bookshelves—plus games and
puzzles, were produced in the Racine area for nearly 60 years. The display includes large,
colorful panels telling Western Publishing 's history and lighted cases containing iconic
Golden Books and other materials on loan from the Racine Heritage Museum collection.
"We wanted to do something that would help make the Visitor Center a destination point in
addition to its role as an information resource for travelers and local residents," said Dave
Blank, Real Racine CEO. "Racine's connection to 'The Poky Little Puppy,' 'The Three Little
Kittens' and all those wonderful Golden Books was a natural."
The display area includes a comfortable couch and a ready supply of children's books.
Children and adult visitors are encouraged to spend time sharing and enjoying the stories.
"We appreciate the great work of Racine Heritage Museum Executive Director Christopher
Paulson and his team in creating this exhibit," Blank added. Plans call for the display cases
to be periodically updated with other items from the Racine area's history.
