Racine Foodies (@RacineFoodies on Instagram) is a delicious venture through Racine’s food scene launched in 2018. Exploring new and old restaurants, munching on everything served up from casual diners to high-end supper clubs, enjoying local fare and culturally diverse dishes along the way, you can follow along with them on Instagram or Facebook and share your own best bites with #RacineFoodies!
Simply Delicious Spots
There is something about a cozy café that helps you start the day off right or gives it a little boost during a lunch run. It is hard to resist the fresh soups, salads, and sandwiches that the Red Onion Café, Lee’s Deli, and Soup Shanty serve up.
Need some extra fuel? There are plenty of spots to grab a coffee or even a protein-packed smoothie. Mocha Lisa, Wilson’s Coffee & Tea, Abrazo Coffee, and Coffee House at Chestnut and Pine have all of your caffeine, juice, and smoothie needs. Don’t forget to check out Refuel for an acai bowl too!
Listen to Your Sweet Tooth
We cannot write an article about Racine without mentioning kringle. With layer upon layer of flaky pastry, sweet filling, and smooth icing, there is no wonder why this treat has become so iconic. The best way to get the full experience is to pick up at least one kringle from each of the famous bakeries.
If you’re looking for a little “treat yourself” moment, a frozen treat from Divino Gelato or Adrian’s Frozen Custard, or a delicious baked goodie from Nissi’s Cake Room and Blue Bear Bakery will do the trick.
What’s life without a little surprise? Food pop-ups and always changing markets are becoming more and more popular around town. If you’re in the mood for farm-fresh goodies, handmade pastries, and a bloody mary or two, a stop at Milaeger's Great Lakes Farmers Market is definitely in order.
A few local chefs have also made a name for themselves with one day or week-long features at local dives. Follow along with Sap Sap for unique Lao-inspired fare, Dragon Pit BBQ for smokey meats, and La Taquiza Guadalajara for birria style Mexican food.
Around the World
Take a trip with your taste buds with plenty of international bites around town. Asiana Korean Cuisine features a mixture of Asian fusion, Olde Madrid delivers great Spanish tapas, Kabab and Grill transport you to the Middle East, Krung Thai and Sticky Rice fill your Thai food cravings, El Gustazo serves up Puerto Rican favorites, and Javier’s Cuisine offers Mexican specialties of all kinds.
While we try to keep visiting different spots around town, there are a few places that are always on our go-to list. Serving up unique farm-to-table dishes Maple Table keeps things fresh all year round. The moment we think of ribs, a stop at Oh Dennis! Saloon & Charcoal House is in order for a finger-licking half rack and garlic mashed potatoes. Chit Chaat serves up a huge variety of Pakistani street food including samosa chat, tandoori chicken, and garlic cheese naan bread. And you don’t need a special occasion to visit Butcher and Barrel, but we love to celebrate with everything from their crafted cocktails to decadent desserts.
